South Africa’s coal production is dominated by five mining companies: Anglo American Thermal Coal, Exxaro Resources, Sasol Mining, BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa (Becsa) and Glencore. These companies, together account for over 80% of the country’s yearly saleable coal production while the balance is made up by many small and medium-sized producers.
